In my workshops and one-on-one coaching, I help students overcome blocks and other preconceived ideas about their writing by showcasing techniques aimed at "connected" writing. I also seek to help students to uncover their deeper story—the underlying pattern, that bit of wisdom, which helps them shape their material.

I teach life writing (i.e., essays and memoir writing) to students at all levels of skill and experience.

All day (10 AM - 4 PM)

Burst through writer’s block and turn diaries, blogs and freewrites into the start of your memoir. How to Create A Compelling Self in Essays and Memoir

In this workshop you’ll learn to create the sort of powerful “voice” you admire in the work of your favorite writers, the style or narrator voice on the page that drives an enthusiastic reader further into your memoir or essay. No matter how difficult or painful the subject, a reader will always accompany an author who has learned to tell her story by harnessing a distinct and engaging voice.

What Students Are Saying...

As a writing teacher, Paul Zakrzewski focuses on the inseparability of artistic depth and technical skill. Paul has a wonderful ability to see into a writer’s dilemma and offer just the right advice for moving through it. Most important, he offers it in the right way, clearly but with a light touch. I’ve gone back to my writing career with increased confidence.
— Susan Piver, author of The Wisdom of the Broken Heart" and other books.
Warning! Paul is the kindest disciplinarian I’ve ever met, and he completely transformed my writing. Not only did he nudge me down new roads, and lead me up others, but he also showed me how to leverage every word, how to make each twist and turn count, how to ask more from myself on the page.
— Tasmine Mocke, MFA, New York University
Paul, you were the best writing teaching I have ever had—bar none (and I’ve had quite a few!) Your way of teaching, using models of excellent writing along with thoughtful responses in a workshop setting (along with your warm and supportive personality) has proven to be the most generative approach I have ever experienced.
— Marsha Rosencweig Pincus
As a trainer of language and literacy teachers, I can say with no reservations that you work wonders in the writing classroom. You are a truly gifted teacher.
— Charlie Grove, Assoc. Prof., West Chester University, Philadelphia
